BREAKING: Audrey Scott Withdraws from Race to Replace Pipkin

Red Maryland has obtained former MDGOP Chair Audrey Scott’s email informing state party chair Diana Waterman, and Delegates Steve Hershey and Mike Smigiel that she is withdrawing from the race to replace EJ Pipkin, who resigned his District 36 State Senate seat earlier this month.

Text of the email below.

Earlier this week the Queen Anne’s County Central Committee voted Scott as their pick to replace Pipkin.  According to state law, the replacement must be a member of the same party and selected by the central committees of that district, and submitted to Governor O’Malley for appointment.  If the committees chose more than one appointee, O’Malley will choose from the names submitted.

District 36 encompasses four counties, Queen Anne’s, Kent, Cecil, and Caroline.  Hershey secured the vote of the Kent County central committee on Thursday, and Smigiel won the nod form Cecil.
