O’Malley to Legislature: Screw You

Most of us labor under the illusion that the General Assembly enacts our laws. We are rapidly discovering that in O’Malleystan the governor does that.

Earlier in the year O’Gov tried to create collective bargaining rights for daycare workers in the absence of legislation. Our own Mark Newgent has documented how he has embarked on a sub rosa project to hold our state’s economy, already battered by nearly a billion dollars in new taxes, hostage by subcontracting environmental policy to what is charitably a snakeoil salesman.

Now, according to O’Malley Watch the governor’s tame insurance commissioner is quietly rewriting regulations to require coverage of domestic partners despite the lack of such a status in Maryland law.

No debate. No hearings. No vote.
