Why are you running for office?
I am running to finish my turn around for Harford County. We have lowered our debt, restored our fund balance while at the same time holding line on taxes and rebuilding salaries for our law enforcement and teachers.
Who do you consider your political role model, and why?
President Lincoln and Reagan for historical perspective and their leadership qualities. Former State Senator Bob Hooper as a contemporary. He was from northern Harford County also and understood the conservative principles of agrarian republican principles.
What is your favorite book about politics and policy, and why?
I enjoy reading books about Harford County history. I just finished up HENRY HARFORD: Last Proprietor of Maryland. It keeps me inspired to always be dedicated to historic preservation.
What will be your top priority in elected to this position?
I plan to expand our efforts to bring tech transfer and additive manufacturing of off Aberdeen Proving Ground into the private sector to grow hi-tech economic development investment and jobs outside the military gate.
What is the biggest issue facing your county?
The Opioid crisis continues to have a devastating impact on families and health and public safety expenditures.
What is your position on taxes and spending?
I have right sized Harford’s government and implemented several digital platforms to aid in efficiency. We have reduced job numbers and outsourced the landfill and other operations. I have reduced the debt, restored the fund balance, held AAA bond rating, 100% of OPEB benefits funded while holding the line on taxes. I also adopted County’s first 20% tax credit for seniors and retired military.
What is your position on a county tax cap?
Harford County has not had a tax cap and our conservative budgeting does not necessitate one at this time.
What is your position on land use issues?
My plan HarfordNEXT is on county website. I believe in a balanced approach that creates opportunity for necessary growth while at the same time preserving Harford’s rural heritage where appropriate.
What is your position on public safety?
I have been endorsed by Harford’s Deputies and supported by Harford’s elected Sheriff Jeff Gahler who is responsible for Harford’s public safety. We have worked together to restore law enforcement and correctional salaries. In Harford, I see my responsibility as a supporter of the Sheriff’
s department to make sure they have the personnel and equipment to protect the County.
