Why are you running for office?
I was appointed to the Central Committee in 2017 to fill a vacancy. In the short period of time that I have served on the Committee, we have had great success and we have made a lot of progress. I would like four more years on the Committee so that success and progress can continue.
Who do you consider your political role model, and why?
Ronald Reagan because he didn’t set out to a be politician.
What is your favorite book about politics and policy, and why?
“Six Crises” by Richard Nixon. The book was written before he was elected President and it touches on his time as a U.S. Congressman, U.S. Senator, and VP. It is a fascinating peak into the head of Richard Nixon before he was elected President.
What do you see as the role of the Central Committee?
The role of the Central Committee is to grow the party and to promote its values and platform, and to get Republicans elected.
What is the biggest issue facing your county Republican Party?
Letting republicans know that it is okay to be a “Hogan Guy” and a “Trump guy.” Some republicans seem to think that because President Trump and Governor Hogan each have different approaches to governing and campaigning, one cannot support or like both of them. Yes, there are many difference between the two but at the end of the day, they have more in common and they both believe in the same principles & values.
What are the three biggest issues facing the Maryland Republican Party?
1. Getting the Governor re-elected. 2. Getting more republican Delegates & State Senators elected to Annapolis in order to prevent the General Assembly from having the ability to override the Governor’s vetoes. 3. Redistricting in 2022.
What is your position on life issues? (abortion, assisted suicide)
What is your position on taxes and spending?
Taxes are a real concern for Marylanders, especially considering that we are the former home of the world famous “Rain tax”, that Governor Hogan thankfully banished. Fortunately, our government leaders in Carroll County watch spending with a conservative close eye and make sure taxes are not easily raised. Currently, a supermajority (4-1 vote) is required to raise taxes (by the County Board of Commissioners) and I agree that it should stay that way.
What is your position on gun rights?
I am pro-2nd amendment. The people of Carroll County love to shoot and hunt and we hate any laws that attempt to infringe upon those rights.
Do you believe that Maryland Republican Party primaries should be open to independent voters?
Do you believe that the state party and the county parties should be allowed to endorse in primary elections?
Do you believe that Maryland Republican Party auxiliary organizations should have a vote on the Maryland Republican Party executive committee?
Would you support limiting the terms of Maryland Republican Party officers to eight consecutive years in the same office?
