Who do you consider your political role model, and why?
Ben Carson is my political role model. First of all, I admire him for sticking to his beliefs. Second, I admire how he openly recognizes that no one person can accomplish and understand all things political. It is important to work with those who are professionals in their fields, such as economics, industry, environment, etc, to fix the various problems in the state. I am an intelligent woman but I know that I will have to work with others to accomplish things in our county and our state. Quite often I have seen and met politicians who are so determined to get all the credit and refuse to work with others.
What is your favorite book about politics and policy, and why?
My favorite book about politics and policy is “Exit, Voice, and Loyalty” by Albert Hirschman. Although this book is older, it is still applicable to today’s issues. It has been a while since I have read it, but it did an excellent job of illustrating how people behave within an organization. In a nutshell, this book demonstrates how people will voice their opinion within an organization, but if they feel that they are not being heard they will eventually exit that organization and find something new.
What do you see as the role of the Central Committee?
Central Committee assists their party by getting out information about candidates, legislators, and clubs along with supporting people within the party. The members attend and host various events for candidates and legislators as well.
What is the biggest issue facing your county Republican Party?
What are the three biggest issues facing the Maryland Republican Party?
I am not one to make up answers, so to this question I can only think of one issue. The Maryland Republican Party’s biggest issue is people not doing their own research on issues. As we know there is a lot of fake news that is making the Party look bad. We need to encourage people to question everything and do their own research.
What is your position on life issues? (abortion, assisted suicide)
I am pro-life. I believe in protecting life both in and out of the womb. I do not support abortion, unless the mothers life is in danger. Anyone who has taken a basic health class would know that once a baby is conceived it is a living person. You wouldn’t kill a child outside of the womb, so why is it okay to do it inside the womb?
I do not support assisted suicide either. There are a lot of reasons as to why I do not support this bill, but I will try to keep it brief. I do not support drug overdoses. What most people do not realize is that this bill is asking doctors to prescribe pills, which is about 100 pills, that the person is to take by themselves in order to die. There have been many cases in which those who have taken the medication have passed out before being able to finish the medication, has thrown up the medication, or who have ingested it and did not die. This bill would give insurance companies the power to turn down medical treatments and offer the cheaper option, death. I fight to preserve life and the right to live. There have been cases in which insurance companies have refused to help pay for treatments and have only provided the pills to end ones life, which is unfair to those who are not ready to give up fight to live. During my research I discovered that many people who were prescribed the medication did not take it within the 6 months that they were told that they would live. People outlive their diagnosis’s all the time. Some people have waited years to take the deadly medication. Some people never take their medication and there is no tracking on the medication to know whether or not they still have it, have sold it, or have thrown it away. There are other reasons as to why I do not support this bill, but I will end it here.
What is your position on taxes and spending?
As a state, we do need to collect taxes in order to fund and accomplish various things around Maryland. Although we do need to collect taxes, I do not believe in over taxing people. People should be able to keep as much of the money that they make as possible. In regards to spending, we as a state should not be spending more than we make and we need to use our money wisely.
What is your position on gun rights?
I am pro-Second Amendment. I believe that people have the right to own a gun unless they are a danger to themselves or society.
Do you believe that Maryland Republican Party primaries should be open to independent voters?
Do you believe that the state party and the county parties should be allowed to endorse in primary elections?
Do you believe that Maryland Republican Party auxiliary organizations should have a vote on the Maryland Republican Party executive committee?
Would you support limiting the terms of Maryland Republican Party officers to eight consecutive years in the same office?
