Why are you running for office?
I believe I have a lot to offer. I want to serve the community and do my part to improve it. My broad knowledge and experience in technology would help the county make smart decisions and bring the community up to speed with rapidly advancing world around us. It’s all about efficiency… Most will consider cuts to save money or raising taxes to bring in more. My goal is to make what we have do more for the people. How far can you stretch a dollar? That’s where the real work is. That’s the challenge. That’s not what happens anymore.
Who do you consider your political role model, and why?
Anyone that has put politics aside to lead. Politicians spend more time fighting each other than actually accomplishing the goal. A politician who is not there for their own gain and not worried about winning the popularity contest are the ones that I look up to.
What is your favorite book about politics and policy, and why?
Who reads books about politics, and why?
I have read some of the Federalist Papers because it helps interpret the original intent of the Constitution of the United States – but that’s not a book.
What will be your top priority in elected to this position?
Eliminating the poor image the Board has right now. Getting rid of speed cameras would be on my list. Generating revenue without impacting the residents of Washington County would be a huge win.
What is the biggest issue facing your county?
Our Fire and EMS services are struggling with funding and manpower as is the 911 call center. This is just what I have witnessed.
What is your position on taxes and spending?
I think contracts should be reviewed and expenses be reevaluated. There is always room to save money. Raising taxes should only happen if there is a NEW
What is your position on a county tax cap?
I would need to see how it would effect the operating budget. I don’t have that data.
What is your position on land use issues?
When I think of Washington County, I think cornfields, mountains, farms, rivers, hunting, fishing, camping. A lot of people come from the city to escape the city. Efforts should be taken to preserve the essence of Washington County and the reason people come here. There should be balance between development and preservation.
What is your position on public safety?
The most important responsibility on any government/municipality. The ripple effect that starts at public safety impacts every aspect of a community.
