Why are you running for office?
To continue providing excellent court customer service through individual assistance; to continue to implement improved and trusted processes to secure documents; to continue enhanced and secured practices of approved methods for handling of monies that result in “no findings” audits; to continue to train staff and encourage “out of the box” thinking on ways we can enhance our service and excellence.
Who do you consider your political role model, and why?
For me, this question isn’t singular, but plural. Over the years, I have admired their leadership style and have valued conversations with former Delegate and County Commissioner Anita Stup, Commissioner Mark Hoke, Commissioner Bruce Reeder, Commissioner Ilona Hogan, Sheriff Jim Hagy, Senator David Brinkley, Delegate Rick Weldon and others. Most of these amazing people were in office when I ran my first campaign. They have many things in common and many unique qualities that I have admired. They have been straight-forward, honest, humble, true Statesman. Qualities that I hope to be known for also.
What is your favorite book about politics and policy, and why?
The one that instructs me to “Do unto others…”
What will be your top priority in elected to this position?
My top priority if re-elected as Clerk of the Circuit Court will be to continue and expand the excellent processes and services this office provides to the citizens.
What is the biggest issue facing your county?
From my position as current clerk, providing court services in a timely, efficient and compassionate manner will always be the issue that leads us. In fulfilling this goal, we will continue to look for and implement processes to fulfill our goal and meet the needs of the public. We have implemented special training and processes in many areas. Included are: Domestic Violence cases, Drug Court, issuance of Marriage Licenses, shortened terms for serving jury duty, on-line juror qualification forms, electronic filing of civil and criminal cases, electronic payment and credit card acceptance. We are currently moving closer towards a Veteran’s Court and e-filing of land record documents and texting individuals for jury duty and court appearances. I believe this office touches on almost every individual and event in this county. In FY17, the clerks office opened 8181 new cases, recorded 41,734 land record documents, collected revenue of 17,274,636.00 with 91% of that generated through land record collections.
