Why are you running for office?
I am running for office because I have been in public service since I was 17 when I joined the Army, and after that I joined the Maryland Transportation Authority Police Department and served the citizens of this state. Since 2006 I have worked in the private sector and have become a small business owner and I see first hand how hard our state is on small business owners. Since leaving public service I have had a feeling of something missing in my life and I’ve seen how our state is suffering under one party rule and I want to help change Maryland and work with our Governor to make our state more friendly to all citizens and small businesses and make it a place where people want to retire and live work and play
Who do you consider your political role model, and why?
Trey Gowdy Because he stands up for Americans no matter what and stands for what’s right no matter what the cost and refuses to back down
What is your favorite book about politics and policy, and why?
Original Intent By David Barton because it explains what our founding father meant when they created our Government and what is meant by a separation of Church and state.
What will be your top priority in the General Assembly?
Education reform and school safety
What is the biggest issue facing your district?
Our Schools are failing our children and the people in charge of the schools are failing everyone.
What are the three biggest issues facing Maryland?
One party rule which causes everything else to fail, High Taxes/out of control spending, and high crime our court system is a revolving door and are not holding criminals responsible for their actions.
What is your position on life issues? (abortion, assisted suicide)
Personally I am against both but I also believe that God gave everyone free will to make their own decisions and we can not legislate morals. Our Government is way to big and allowing the Government to legislate Morals is allowing the Government to control every aspect of ones life.
What is your position on taxes and spending?
I believe our taxes are too high and it causes a lot of good hard working Marylanders to leave our beautiful state for lower taxed areas that surround us. The spending by our Government must be reigned in and can not be allowed to expand. We can not continue down a path of spending money we do not have and than raising fees and taxes to pay for it. We need to be fiscally responsible in Government.
What is your position on gun rights?
I believe that any Law Abiding citizen that wishes to own or carry a handgun should be allowed to, I further believe that the Maryland State Police should have a good and substantial reason to not issue a permit to carry and not the other way around.
What is your position on education?
I believe our education system is in dire trouble and we need to fix it. Our children go to school everyday with anxiety about whether they will be beat up or worse. Bullying has become an epidemic in our schools and our school leaders are doing nothing about it. They refuse to discipline the bad students or allow the teachers to correct bad behavior. I am working with a group that is fighting to bring discipline back to our schools and create a safe and healthy environment for ALL students, an environment that fosters personal responsibility and holds everyone accountable for their actions no matter who they are or where they come from. The school leaders are more concerned with keeping their federal funding by keeping the number of reported incidents in their schools down and lowering the suspension and expulsion rates than fostering a safe and healthy environment for students to learn and that needs to stop.
What is your position on the legalization of marijuana?
I do not agree with the legalization of any drugs. That being said Marijuana does have a medical use for those suffering from medical conditions and I have no problem with legalization of medical uses for marijuana not for recreational use.
What is your position on the current three-tiered system for the sale and distribution of alcohol?
I believe the system is working however I would not be opposed to making changes to the system which would make it more effective for small business owners in our state
Legislators can receive $101 per day for lodging and $47 per day for meals during the 90-day General Assembly session. If elected, do you plan to accept these benefits? Why or why not?
Generally I would say no I would not accept this money due to the fact that Annapolis is only a 40 minute drive from my residence however if a day came where we worked into the night and had to return in the morning I could see staying in Annapolis instead of driving home while over tired and getting no rest then returning a few hours later to start again. I believe this benefit was put in place for the Senators and Delegates that live further away from Annapolis.
There is a culture of depravity and sexual harassment prevalent in the Maryland General Assembly. As a legislator, how will you work to end this culture of depravity and to ensure that those who commit these acts are removed from the General Assembly?
I plan to bring a culture of personal responsibility to Annapolis and I will work with my colleagues and the people of Maryland to make sure that people that commit these acts are removed from the general assembly whether they be elected officials or their staff. There is no place in the State House for these people who think they are above the law.
