Why are you running for office?
I was appointed by the Governor when the prior Sheriff left Office mid-term after allegations of unprofessional conduct. I have been working to restore the Howard County community’s trust in the Office and to bring professional management and performance to the Office to ensure that it meets the high expectations of Howard County residents.
Who do you consider your political role model, and why?
I respect a number of people and try to emulate the best qualities that I see in others. Abraham Lincoln stands out as someone who responded to what was an obvious crisis in a manner that put nation first and did so by bringing in some of his most ardent detractors.
What is your favorite book about politics and policy, and why?
What will be your top priority in elected to this position?
To continue to restore the trust that Howard County should have in its Sheriff’s Office and to ensure that those we interact with are treated with respect and dignity. I will also ensure that the men and women of the Office have the training, policies, equipment and support they need to meet the high expectations of our community.
What is the biggest issue facing your county?
Continuing to meet the high expectations of our citizens.
What is your position on taxes and spending?
I have the responsibility to ensure that the Sheriff’s Office uses the resources we are given in an effective and responsible manner. Our citizens deserve to know that we use their money wisely.
What is your position on a county tax cap?
What is your position on land use issues?
What is your position on public safety?
The protection of our citizens is the primary responsibility of government. Having the best schools, parks, libraries and other amenities are meaningless if people do not feel safe to use them.
