Trending: Robin Ficker Running for Governor
General Assembly Legislative Aide/Political reporter
Why are you running for office?
For the future of my three kids and our community. Many of our politicians have become career politicians. Gov. Larry Hogan is trying to change the culture of Annapolis and give power back to the people, but many of them have been there for decades and are out of touch with everyday people.
Who do you consider your political role model, and why?
Ronald Reagan. Being a successful leader is doing what needs to be done, even if it is not popular at the time.
What is your favorite book about politics and policy, and why?
Reagan Rising. I was too young to remember the Reagan years, but this book has given insight on the success of Ronald Reagan.
What will be your top priority in the General Assembly?
Education, Jobs and Housing. We need to improve our schools, get people working and we need to increase homeownership throughout the state
What is the biggest issue facing your district?
Education. We have overcrowded schools in District 8. We also have too many vacant houses. We need to promote homeownership.
What are the three biggest issues facing Maryland?
Education is an issue across the state and especially in Baltimore City. The opioid epidemic is a problem in both urban and rural areas and we are really behind on that issue. Healthcare is another issue that has become a problem as many can not afford treatment and/or prescription drugs.
What is your position on life issues? (abortion, assisted suicide)
I am for life and against abortion and assisted suicide.
What is your position on taxes and spending?
I am for less taxes and less spending. We need to decrease government
What is your position on gun rights?
I am pro 2nd Amendment. Citizens in Maryland should have the right to protect themselves and their families.
What is your position on education?
When a school system fails, Maryland wants to pour more money into that school system. That is wrong. What need more transparency and accountability. We should continue to expand BOOST and voucher programs.
What is your position on the legalization of marijuana?
With the opioid epidemic in Maryland, now is NOT the time to talk about legalizing marijuana.
What is your position on the current three-tiered system for the sale and distribution of alcohol?
At this time, I do not see a problem with the current three-tiered system. I have heard a few proposals with brewers about changing the system, but have not heard enough to want to make a change.
Legislators can receive $101 per day for lodging and $47 per day for meals during the 90-day General Assembly session. If elected, do you plan to accept these benefits? Why or why not?
I don’t plan on milking the benefits for three meals a day and staying in Annapolis every night. However; I am far from a millionaire, so I would probably need some reimbursement for tolls, gas, etc.
There is a culture of depravity and sexual harassment prevalent in the Maryland General Assembly. As a legislator, how will you work to end this culture of depravity and to ensure that those who commit these acts are removed from the General Assembly?
We have had legislators convicted of crimes and they have continued to serve. The Maryland General Assembly needs stricter system to remove legislators if they are convicted.
