Former MD Delegate Announces Candidacy for MD’s 6th Congressional District
Mathew Mossburg, a Conservative Republican in active recovery for opiate addiction, makes fighting the opiate crisis in Maryland central to his candidacy.
Frederick, MD– Mathew Mossburg of Frederick is announcing his candidacy for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District. Equipped with both a prior record of major legislative accomplishments in the Maryland General Assembly and his experience overcoming addiction, Mossburg plans to bring potent changes to the opioid crisis tearing through the nation.
At the request of Gov. Larry Hogan’s Administration, former Del. Mossburg provided critical testimony before both legislative chambers of the Maryland General Assembly during the 2017 Legislative Session, ensuring passage of emergency legislation to increase penalties for drug distribution resulting in death. He seeks to change the narrative surrounding addiction and make real treatment options available to those who are struggling. Mossburg’s previous experience in the General Assembly and his story of hardship and addiction has brought hope to many. More importantly, it has helped raise awareness with state policy makers in Maryland, demonstrating his leadership ability in the political and legislative process.
As recent reports of the worsening opioid crisis highlight, Mossburg believes this life-and-death issue is non-partisan, affecting nearly all facets of American life, from economic success to national security.
“It is time for our leaders and our country to come together to fight this common enemy and save our families and communities. This will require a new era of unity, civility and collaborative policy-making from all sides.”
His platform is based on fighting the opioid crisis, returning economic prosperity to the 6th Congressional District, and strengthening principle-driven, conservative leadership in Washington. “With the right kind of leadership in Washington, I believe our best days as Marylanders and as a country will soon be a reality.”
Mossburg joins an ever growing crowd of announced or potential GOP nominees including 2016 nominee Amie Hoeber, Maryland Secretary of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation Kelly Schulz and Adam McKee, among others.
