There is an effort underway to have a state-wide referendum on the subject of giving in-state tuition rates to criminals illegal aliens. The referendum, if passed, would bar the state from giving giving this preferential tuition rate to people who have no legal right to be in the United States and who cannot legally be employed in the United States even if they complete their degree work.
This should be a no-brainer. Really. But it isn’t. I say this because if there is any place on the face of the earth that a no-brainer should find a home it would be Annapolis and the General Assembly could not bring itself to vote in favor of supporting US immigration law.
This idea in gaining traction even in Montgomery County. If there is one thing that we should all be able to agree on it is that we should not reward people who have broken the law. And we certainly shouldn’t give financial preference to illegal aliens to the disadvantage of American citizens and legal residents.
Anyway, the deadline for the petition drive is May 31. Go to MDPetitions and sign yours today.
