WHY CONGRESS IS NOT TALKING ABOUT LEGAL REFORM IN THE HEALTH CARE DEBATE

By Todd D. Lamb, executive director-Maryland Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse

As lawmakers continue to debate overhauling our nation’s health care system – legal reform continues to be absent from the discussion. Want to know why Congress isn’t including legal reform in the health care debate? See for yourself as former DNC Chairman Howard Dean admits on camera that Congress is avoiding legal reform because they’re not willing to take on the powerful personal injury bar.

As Governor Dean said: “the reason why tort reform is not in the bill is because the people who wrote it did not want to take on the trial lawyers in addition to everybody else they were taking on, and that is the plain and simple truth.”

Lawsuit abuse is driving up our health care costs, driving doctors out of business and hurting patients. Now is not the time to be silent, as Governor Dean suggests. Now is the time for action.
