Maryland 19th Most Corrupt State

Unfree State

Out of 50 states, Maryland ranks the 19th most corrupt state in the Union, according the Corporate Crime Reporter.

Based on data complied from the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section, the Unfree State has soared in its corruption ranking from 37th in 2004 to the top 20 in just a few years!

However, the corruption study does have its limits, according to Russell Mokhiber, editor of Corporate Crime Reporter.“The Justice Department is reporting only public corruption convictions that result from a federal prosecution,” Mokhiber said. “Also, public officials in any given state can be corrupt to the core, and if a federal prosecutor doesn’t have the resources or the sheer political will to bring the case and win a conviction, the corruption will not be reflected in the Justice Department’s data set,” he added.
