Gilchrest Supports Creating ‘Dept. of Peace & Nonviolence’

Unfree State

If there was ever any doubt that Eastern Shore Republican Congressman Wayne Gilchrest leans strongly to the left, his signing on to a bill that would establish a new “U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence” should remove it forever!

Gilchrest joins 69 (other?) Democrats, including fellow Marylander Rep. Elijah Cummings, in sponsoring HR 808, which would create a new bureaucracy headed by a Cabinet-level “Secretary of Peace” appointed by the president (with the advice and consent of the Senate).

The new agency would focus on expanding the nation’s capacity to resolve conflict nonviolently, prevent violence by addressing its root causes, and promote justice and democratic principles to expand human rights, according to the Peace Alliance, the left-wing group supporting the proposal.

If this sounds like something right out of George Orwell’s novel “1984,” it’s because it is! As the sole Republican throwing his support behind this monstrosity, Gilchrest confirms what voters in his district already knew when they voted for state Sen. Andy Harris instead of him in the Republican primary.
