Ehrlich Used Dollars To Promote Himself…allegedly
For those of you who are not familiar, the “Blame Ehrlich” series was started at MarylandPT to point out the absurdity of Democrats in blaming former Governor Robert Ehrlich (R) for…basically anything that suits the moment. Case in point is the following…
The Maryland Office of Tourism between the years of 2003-2007 were not promoting state destinations because they were promoting the image of one man…at least according to Governor Martin O’Malley (D). He has blamed Ehrlich for turning the state tourism department into the state Ehrlich department…so to speak.
From “The Politics Hour with Kojo and Jonetta” on WAMU (88.5FM) this past Friday (May 9):
“We are very critical of my predecessor for in essence hijacking tourism promotion dollars that should have been promoting great destinations like Garrett County, Ocean City, the Inner Harbor of Baltimore. Instead of using them for that, he used them to entirely promote his image and his name and his face…I felt that was wrong and I said that for my part I would not do that if I were elected governor and I have not done that as elected governor.”
Oh my. Governor, with all due respect, if that is the case (and for the record I don’t), at least he managed to keep his job approval rating near 60 percent in doing so. You have The Baltimore Sun, the ear of any television station in Central Maryland plus you have assistance from House Speaker Michael Busch (D-Dist. 30), Senate President Thomas Mike Miller (D-Dist. 27) along with the rest of the Democratic caucus and you are barely pulling half of the job approval rating of the predecessor you keep smearing.
Again assuming you are right (and again, I doubt it), in typical Republican fashion, Ehrlich still manage to run the PR machine more efficiently than you are and with less manpower to boot.
