The Ocean City Boondoggle

O’Malley Watch has a priceless review of the Maryland Association of Counties boondoggle over the weekend in Ocean City.

Imagine the cost for 3-4 nights of hotel rooms in the middle of Ocean City’s biggest holiday weeks (at an average of $250 a night) for every County Commissioner and County Councilman in the State. Well on top of that, most counties pay to sponsor their own booths because each county needs to lobby the other counties for business… oh wait… that doesn’t make sense. And you can’t have the elected officials managing those booths so we need to have taxpayer funded staffers to do that and we have to pay for their hotel rooms too at the same $250 a night hotel room. Wow! That’s a lot of local taxpayer money being spent.

File this under “structural deficit.”
