The Turning of the Tide…
The opening night of the Heartland International Conference on Climate Change was inspiring, if for only one reason: the tide is turning against global warming alarmism. Public opinion is shifting and not only Americans, but others around the world are coming to realize what noted skeptic, MIT Professor of Meteorology Richard Lindzen said in his keynote address, “We are right, and they are wrong!”
Lindzen’s remarks reminded me of Reagan’s quip to Richard Allen about Cold War policy towards the Soviets, “We win, they lose.”
The other keynote speaker Vaclav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic summed up global warming alarmism in three words “it’s an ideology.” Lindzen echoed that sentiment calling it “chiefly a political movement.” It is indeed, when you look at comments like this:
“For the first time, humanity is instituting a genuine instrument of global governance, one that should find a place within the World Environmental Organisation which France and the European Union would like to see established.”

Whether it is in pursuit of ideological ends or rank profiteering, these people want to impose massive regulatory taxes on energy production, which will strangle economic growth, and add massive burdens on the middle class.
Apparently the winds of change have blown into Maryland yet, as our own governor Martin O’Malley, has proposed legislation that will impose higher energy costs, enrich alternative energy interests and do nothing to address climate change. All is not lost though. Our own Senator Janet Greenip is also attending the conference to educate herself on the issue. O’Malley’s bill passed the Senate (with a yea vote from Andy Harris. Wouldn’t the Club for Growth like to know about that!) and is now before the House of Delegates. Once again, I urge all of you to contact the members of the House Economic Matters Committee and urge them to reject the Senate bill.
