Red Maryland Post-Session Survey: Haven Shoemaker
What is your top legislative achievement for the 2017 General Assembly Session?
Helping Governor Hogan achieve the lion’s share of his legislative initiatives, including tax relief for retired police, firefighters, and EMS: as well as some measures designed to help Carroll County.
What are some of your other legislative achievements for the 2017 General Assembly Session?
Working with my colleagues to kill a number of bad bills which could have been terrible for the people of Maryland.
What is your top legislative disappointment for the 2017 General Assembly Session?
The failure of the legislature to pass meaningful and comprehensive tax relief for Marylanders is an epic fail. Additionally, the legislature’s failure to address gerrymandering is seriously disappointing
We asked before Session about your top legislative priorities for 2017. How do you feel about your efforts to achieve those priorities?
I indicated that one of my top jobs was to be a good foot soldiers for the Governor in helping him to change Maryland. I think I was able to accomplish that.
Please explain your vote on House Bill 631.
The propensity of the big pharmaceutical companies to gouge folks (as we saw with the epipen debacle) has to be reigned in. It’s unconscionable.
Will you be running for re-election in 2018? Why or why not?
I am in my first term. As a firm believer in term limits, I took a 2 term pledge. I intend to seek a second term to help Larry Hogan finish what he’s started—to get government off people’s backs and out of their wallets
