Blago is Buriss’ Pimp

This is the point that I make when it comes Black people in Democrats. Particularly in Maryland, where Democrats take the Black vote for granted, and they continue to do so. But if this is not a wake-up call for African-Americans to wake up and start demanding accountability from the leaders of their chosen party, I don’t know what will.

This week in Chicago, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich (D) appointed veteran Illinois politician Roland Burris (D) to finish the senate term that President-elect Barack Obama (D) resigned from…I wonder why. Keep in mind, Burris is already entering a volatile situation. Blago’s pick no matter who it was going to be would not be honored anyway. Burris being drafted was going to insert race instantly anyway because of him being black. For the moment, it was a situation which was going to have race inserted in a sneaky and underhanded way.

Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL) stepped to the mic and placed on display the Democratic race playbook. Rush said Senate democrats, who said that the appointment will not hold water, should not “hang and lynch the appointee as you try to castigate the appointer.” Even more embarrassing was that Burris, a respectable public servant, allowed this circus to happen.

Burris, who had a distinguished career as Illinois Comptroller and Attorney General, allowed himself to be whored by a man who seems to be doing anything to save himself. Let’s be honest, if Burris was a respected elder statesman of the Land of Lincoln, then Blago, let alone Burris, did not need Rush to open a Red Bull can of racial politics.

Think about this, Illinois has sent two African-Americans to the U.S. Senate within the past two decades. Carol Mosley Braun (D) won her one-term handily in 1992 over Richard Williamson by ten percent. Obama in 2004 received 70 percent of the vote, but considering that Alan Keyes was his opponent, it’s not all that hard to thump someone with that big of margin. Congressman Rush inserted race into the equation when it was not needed. For Blago, it was punk move when Illinois is at last check just over 80 percent White.

So congratulations Mr. Burris, you have thrown your accomplishments aside while allowing yourself to be whored for no reason whatsoever.
