Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain may say he’s for securing our borders and being tough on illegal immigration, but his home state of Arizona has the highest share of illegal aliens than any other state, says a new report from the Public Policy Institute of California.

The institute estimates that in 2006, 8.3 % of Arizona’s population consisted of illegals, followed by California with 7.8 %; Texas, 7.1 %; and Florida, 5.5 %.

About 3.9 % of the country’s population, or 11.5 million people, were illegal immigrants, the group estimates.
