Charter Schools Continue to Grow

The Washington Post reports that despite the overt hostility of the education bureaucracy the number of charter schools continue to grow in Maryland.

If the charter school movement can grow in as sterile soil as is found in Maryland then it can grow anywhere.

To be sure, the charter school movement attracts educational fads and hustlers though one would be hard pressed to say that they are found in greater numbers in charter schools than in the typical school district. Charter schools are not a panacea but the educational bureaucracy is much more interested in the benefits and percs it can arrogate to itself and its members than it is in working to educate children. The presence of charter schools and the ability to home school are critical components in encouraging and requiring failing public school systems to reform themselves because they are demonstrably incapable of reforming from within.
