This Certainly Explains A Lot

According to the Baltimore Sun, O’Malley’s budget chief was arrested for DUI in Howard County:

Maryland Budget Secretary T. Eloise Foster was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol last month in Howard County, according to court records.

A state police trooper pulled over Foster’s Jaguar in the southbound lane of Interstate 95 at Volmerhauser Road in Columbia for failing to drive in a single lane, records say. In addition to that offense, she was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while impaired. The arrest occurred at 9:37 p.m. June 9. According to court records, the case is active.

Last night, a spokesman for Gov. Martin O’Malley confirmed the incident.

Probably coming from a meeting on the state budget…

In all seriousness, this type of secrecy is becoming the hallmark of an administration that is only a few months old. It will get worse as time progresses.

While a DUI, in and of itself, isn’t a disqualification for office one has to wonder why this was not announced concurrent with the event. Did the O’Malley regime think they could keep this under wraps or are they totally insensitive to the fact that driving under the influence is a serious lapse of judgment by anyone much less a senior official.

As they say, bad news is not a fine wine. It doesn’t improve with age. Nothing was gained from this attempted sleight of hand and they will eventually discover that a great deal was lost.
